A Bit o' History

The Yorkville Players premiered as a local community theatre group in the Fall of 1990, with a production of "The ^New Odd Couple", the female version of Neil Simon's comedy. A combination of the hard work and imagination of its founding members, the use of the excellent facilities of the McCelvey Center, and continued support from the community at large, has resulted in The Yorkville Players becoming a peerless local community theatre group.

Since their first season in 1990, the Players have presented about two productions per year. Some of these plays include:

• 1995   I Hate Hamlet (Spring) / Miracle Worker (Fall)

• 1996   Last of Red Hot Lovers (Spring) / Lend Me a Tenor (Fall)

• 1997   Crimes of the Heart (Spring)

• 1998   Modern Approach (Spring) / Charlie Brown (Fall)

• 1999   Fantastiks (Spring) / Dracula (Fall)

• 2000-2001  Bus Stop (Fall) / Miss Firecracker (Spring)

• 2001-2002  Plastic Sandwich (Fall) / Cuckoo's Nest (Spring)

• 2002-2003  Dearly Departed (Fall) / Animal Crackers (Spring)

• 2003-2004  Red Herring (Fall) / Odd Couple (Spring)

With the new millennium, the Players expanded their calendar to four (or more) productions per year with the advent of the Young Yorkville Players.
